Treatment Options

At RISE Psychological Services, Dr. Scherer primarily uses the following evidence-based therapies:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) a type of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative patterns of thinking and behavior. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, and that by changing one of these components, we can improve our overall well-being. CBT is often used to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a highly effective form of cognitive-behavioral therapy used to treat depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and other concerns. It integrates traditional CBT with learning skills to improve distress tolerance, acceptance, and mindful awareness to help individuals regulate their emotions and improve their overall well-being. DBT is widely recognized as one of the most successful treatments for individuals struggling with intense emotion.

PE Therapy for Trauma

Prolonged Exposure Therapy is a highly effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This therapy involves providing the tools and resources necessary to overcome trauma. In a safe and controlled environment, the person is guided through the process of overcoming the trauma they experienced.  By confronting and processing their traumatic memories, a person can experience significant reductions in

PTSD symptoms.

Parent Coaching

Parent coaching uses techniques from parent management training, parent-child interaction therapy, and DBT. This approach empowers caregivers with practical skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the joys and challenges of raising children. It's not about judgment or one-size-fits-all solutions, but rather equipping caregivers with the tools needed to raise happy, healthy, and well-adjusted children. Parent Coaching is often used to treat behavioral challenges, improve communication, rebuild the parent-child relationship, and navigate mental health challenges within the home.
